What is the sales tax rate in Utah County?

7.35% to 7.45% as of October 1, 2026: 7.45% in Provo, Orem, Lehi and the other larger cities, and 7.35% outside city limits. The table below has each city's location code.

What does small-business bookkeeping in Utah County include?

Recording every sale and expense, matching the ledger to each bank and card statement, and keeping sales tax out of income. A $100 taxable sale in Orem collects 7.45%, so $7.45 belongs in sales tax payable, not revenue. The worked example runs a full quarter.

How do I find the best bookkeeper in Utah County?

Ask each candidate which sales-tax location code your place of business uses, and why. Near the Point of the Mountain the answer changes the rate. More under choosing a bookkeeper.

The gap between the two rates is one column of the chart: the cities' rows carry a 0.10% Botanical, Cultural, Zoo Tax that the unincorporated county's row does not.

One area in the county is higher. The MIDA MVP Utah County area, which the chart marks as not an incorporated city or town, is at 8.95%.

One quarter earlier, the July 1, 2026 chart listed the same 7.35% and 7.45%, and the Provo example below is worked at those rates. A new chart arrives every quarter, so the rate set up in the books is checked against each one.

The Point of the Mountain: one Draper, two rates

Silicon Slopes runs from Lehi to the Point of the Mountain, where Utah County meets Salt Lake County, and the county line runs through Draper. The Tax Commission lists the two sides separately: Draper City South, in Utah County, at 7.35%, and Draper, in Salt Lake County, at 7.45%.

A mailing address that says Draper does not settle which rate applies. The location code for each place of business is worth confirming when the books are set up, so the rate on the sales-tax return matches the place the business actually operates from.

Worked example: a quarter of sales in Provo

A Provo shop sells $20,000 of taxable goods from July through September and charges 7.45%. The same sales outside city limits would carry 7.35%.

Sales tax collected on $20,000 of taxable sales in one quarter, at the July 1, 2026 rates.

Selling into Utah County from another state

Selling into Utah County from another state works differently: out-of-state sellers source by the customer's ZIP +4, not by this chart. When a remote seller has to collect at all is covered in when a small business has to collect Utah sales tax. Sales that do not carry the combined rate at all, such as groceries and restaurant meals, are worked through on the Salt Lake County page and in restaurant bookkeeping.

Bookkeeping services and choosing a bookkeeper in Utah County

Excite Tax's services are the same across Utah: bookkeeping, monthly close, catch-up, new-business setup and payroll coordination. What a Utah County setup adds is the location code: each place of business is registered under one, and near the Point of the Mountain the code decides the rate. A candidate who cannot say which code your address uses has not looked. The rest of the checklist is in how to choose a bookkeeper, and who stands behind Excite Tax's work is on credentials.
