It depends on the city and the date. From October 1, 2026, Ogden, Roy, North Ogden and South Ogden charge 7.45% and Riverdale 7.65%; before that the same cities charged 7.25% and 7.45%. Each city is in the rate table.
Weber County adds a new 0.20% County Public Transit Tax, effective October 1, 2026, on top of every city's rate. Point-of-sale and invoicing software needs the new rate that day; what to change in the books is below.
No ranked list can check what matters: whether the books agree with the bank, whether the right Weber County rate is on every sale, and who signs the return. Excite Tax names TBD CPA LLC for that last one. The questions to ask any bookkeeper are below.
Changes to combined sales and use tax rates with an effective date of 10/01/2026 ... Weber County 29-000 0.20% † County Public Transit Tax ... † New tax
The Tax Commission's change list for the quarter names one new tax in the county: a 0.20% County Public Transit Tax that applies countywide, in every city and in the unincorporated areas. Every combined rate in Weber County is therefore 0.20 points higher from October than it was in the July chart.
The change starts on the first day of a quarter, which keeps the returns clean. A business with $50,000 or less of annual sales-tax liability files quarterly, so its July to September return is entirely at the old rate and its October to December return entirely at the new one. A monthly filer's September return is the last one at the old rate.
Food and food ingredients are the exception: the same chart puts them at 3.0% statewide, so a grocery sale does not change on October 1, 2026.
Combined sales and use tax rates from the Utah State Tax Commission charts for the quarters beginning July 1, 2026 and October 1, 2026.
| City | Through September | From October | Tax on a sample sale, from October |
|---|---|---|---|
| Ogden | 7.25% | 7.45% | $74.50 on a $1,000 sale |
| Roy | 7.25% | 7.45% | $74.50 on a $1,000 sale |
| North Ogden | 7.25% | 7.45% | $74.50 on a $1,000 sale |
| South Ogden | 7.25% | 7.45% | $74.50 on a $1,000 sale |
| Riverdale | 7.45% | 7.65% | $76.50 on a $1,000 sale |
Across the whole county the October chart runs from 7.45% to 8.45%. Riverdale sits above its neighbours because it adds a local tax of its own on top of the county's; the top of the county range is a single small town with a town option tax.
Take an Ogden retailer with $20,000 of taxable sales a quarter, charged at 7.25% through September. That is $1,450.00 of sales tax collected, and from October the same sales at 7.45% come to $1,490.00.
The $40.00 difference is the new 0.20% transit tax. It is the state's money from the moment it is collected, so it belongs in a sales-tax liability account and on the return, never in the shop's income.
Where the sale happens matters too. Under Utah's sourcing rule, a sale is taxed at the seller's location when the buyer receives the item at the shop, and at the place where the buyer takes receipt otherwise. The same Ogden shop delivering to a customer in Riverdale charges Riverdale's 7.65%, not Ogden's 7.45%.
Excite Tax keeps the books that feed this return. Filing the Utah sales-tax return itself is not a service Excite Tax lists yet; you, or whoever you authorise, file it with the Utah State Tax Commission.
